Why is murder a 'sin'?

It is a sin because the murder is almost stealing the life of another person. Life on earth is good. You get to live and make decisions, good or bad, and when you die, God looks over your life and decides if you go into heaven or hell or purgatory. That's how I see it. And it is also causing extreme emotional pain to the person who was killed's family.
